Let the Hijinks Begin!
I have started this blog so the persons using my email address fictitiously, will be able to see what they are missing. I know they will never see this blog, but for me and my family, we find the things that I find in my inbox highly amusing, weird and sometimes alarming. Mostly my email is used in the Greensboro and or Greenville NC area.
Here is a screen shot of some of my inbox.
This is a tiny portion of the emails I receive. This batch is mostly from a school district.
I do not know who The Student is, but I do know he is in trouble with his school and parents for unexcused absences. He is getting good grades and should not be getting in trouble. Due to the fact this does involve a minor, I have been able to notify the person who sends these email out and inform her that The Student signed up using my email and not his parents email address. The Student seems to be a bit of a wiseass to me.
Next up is the vast amount of emails I get in my promotions tab. They are all over the board. However, they are also mostly addressed to "Candy", "Sugargirl1018", "Candice", "Love", "Sexy Candy"... You get the idea. There are many more and I will share as the new ones come in.
Now, let us look at some of the other items in my inbox. Receipts. Yes. Why would anyone use a fictious email for receipts? There is just too many things in an electronic receipt that I would not want anyone to see due to privacy issues.
Take a look at this Party City receipt.
I have removed the more identifiable info. But still. I don't want this in my email. I don't know who this person is and I sure don't care either.
I can understand wanting to use a fake email for signing up in stores, online sites, and all those other pesky things that seem to only work if you give them a fake email name. That is the sole purpose of THIS email I created. So that all those sign up and future annoying emails go to one place and my regular email stays clean and clear of unwanted emails. I would never just pull an email address out of my butt and use it. Allowing a complete stranger access to their private life. I can also understand forgetting a period mark or a letter and accidentally giving out the wrong email address. But these persons are doing it deliberately.
The thing that gets me is this person uses it for important things, like their children's education, classes and other activities. I get a lot of emails for that kind of thing that involve other students and parental activities for education events. That is disturbing. How can you not use your real email address? Don't they want to know what is going on with their child and to stay abreast of all activities? I would.
They also let the child, a girl, use it to sign up for things like Facebook! That is the one and only time I got through to the parent to let them know. The father responded that the daughter has been using my email to sign up all over the place for websites and he was concerned. He was going to "talk with her" regarding this scary conduct. I say put a parental block on this precocious child. I have seen the things she signs up for and even worse, the user names she calls herself. Waaaay too inappropriate.
I have an away message that automatically generates a response for each incoming email. Basically it says the person has been deceived and to please remove me from their mailing list. That does not always work and I have to unsubscribe manually. Sometimes I have to go to more drastic measures.
As for the emails that tell me someone has used my email to set up a new email address, guess what. That person now gets forwarded all my emails. After all, they asked for it, didn't they? I figure that if they needed an email to sign up for things, then it was my duty to make sure they don't miss any important emails. I was amazed at how much my unwanted emails dropped off after I started forwarding them to Chetterman!
My email is also used to sign up for blogs. I get the stats. (in my email of course)
Apparently I have a big fan base with stats saying "my" blog is getting a lot of traffic. But most it is from the Greensville/Greensboro NC area. That particular blog is dead and has been for years. But someone from that area visits it nearly every day. Again. Weird.
So toodleloo. Off to my real world.
